Amanda Todd’s Tragedy and God’s Healing
By Guest Blogger Jordan P
This story has been making its rounds on the Internet for more than a week now, but I finally had the opportunity today to watch Amanda Todd’s video and read about her tragic death.
If you don’t know about this girl and what happened to her, watch her video here, and read about what happened on October 10 here.
This young girl’s experiences were horrific. She was the victim of unspeakable cruelty and manipulation. To make things worse, it is nearly impossible to properly affix blame for what happened upon any one individual. Yes, she had a stalker, and we naturally hope he is brought to justice, but what about all of the collective cruelty of her peers, both at school and online? These kids’ guilt probably ranged from standard teenage immaturity to uncommon vindictiveness.
Even if proper punishment could be meted out upon all of them, it would not bring this girl back to life, or erase the terrible physical and emotional agony she suffered in the years before she died. It is this thought that causes the soul to stir with pity and a sense of despair over the ugly viciousness of this world.
But there is still hope for all of us, even for Amanda Todd. When Jesus Christ came into this world to perform his perfect atonement, he absorbed every evil imaginable. His answer to darkness and pain and injustice was to descend below it all so that he could lift others out.
Amanda was dealt a hand of terrible agony in life, but she is in the direct care of our Savior and Healer now. As for the rest of us who must continue to struggle and strive in the darkness, we need not fear. For as our lives and fellows heap suffering upon us, and even as we bring it on ourselves, God’s unending plea is that we turn it over to him. He will comfort us and help us to endure, just as surely as he now comforts and heals his daughter Amanda Todd.
